Monique Jethwani

Monique Jethwani, Ph.D., is a Developmental Psychologist and Lecturer at the Columbia University School of Social Work. She is affiliated with the Center for Research on Fathers, Children and Family Well-Being at the Columbia School of Social Work and with the Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools at New York University. Her research examines student perceptions of school belonging, and how adolescents navigate the intersection of race, gender and class in the school context. Her work has raised awareness of inequity and injustice in education in NYC, Bermuda, India and the US Virgin Islands. She most recently examined school-based obstacles to girls’ participation in computer science courses and careers. She has identified several best practices for promoting girls feelings of connectedness in computer science and is developing a school-based program entitled 'Cyber Girls.’
