David J. Knight is an educator, researcher, writer, and filmmaker whose work focuses on the intersections of race, gender, and justice in the lives of urban youth today. A graduate of Dartmouth, Stanford, and Harvard, David uses multidisciplinary approaches—crossing academic and artistic boundaries—in order to identify under-acknowledged strengths, perspectives, and experiences among adolescents, particularly young men of color. His recent research explores the relationship between ethnic/gender identity and agency among youth of color, in addition to understanding emotional complexity and disclosure as a way for young Black and Latino males to cope with discrimination. His work has appeared in national publications including The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Harvard Educational Review, and Education Week.
