PACH Conversation #2: Jonathan Shay on Moral Injury and Our Common Humanity
In the second installment of the PACH conversation series, Jonathan Shay, M.D., Ph.D. joins PACH as a special guest speaker, along with Jimmie Briggs as Moderator and Alisha Ali, Khary Lazarre-White, Adrian Nicole LeBlanc, James Gilligan, and Stephen Wolfert.
Shay is a psychiatrist, MacArthur Fellow, and author of Achilles in Vietnam: Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character. Shay’s treatment of combat trauma suffered by Vietnam veterans combined with his critical and imaginative interpretations of the ancient accounts of battle described in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are deepening our understanding of the effects of warfare on the individual.
